Jean B. Roberts, 69, of Burnsville, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Bath Community Hospital.  She was born July 14, 1939 in Bath County a daughter of the late Thomas H. and Leta Jones (Folks) Burns.

On April 19, 1957, she married Lacy Lee Roberts who preceded her in death on March 21, 2006.  She was also predeceased by a sister, Twila Roberts and three brothers, Rembert, Darrell and Julian Burns.

Mrs. Roberts was a member of Burnsville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Group.  “Mama Jean” retired from The Homestead after 36 years of service.  She was an avid bingo player. 

She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Joseph Lockridge of Burnsville, Nancy and Marshall Colvin of Hot Springs, Connie Hammer of Burnsville and Theresa Beall of Hot Springs; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ralph Roberts of Burnsville and Jeffrey and Paula Roberts of Hot Springs; eleven grandchildren, Christopher Stanley, Curtis and Anthony Lockridge, Casey Woodson, Candace Hammer, Tracy Roberts, Tiffany Beall, Tabatha, James, Kimberly and Samantha Cook; four great-grandchildren, Laci Ryder, Makaylee Loudermilk, Hannah Cook and Asa Altizer; two sisters, Helen Puffenbarger and Edith Jackson, both of Staunton and a number of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Chelsey McAllister and a special nephew, Caleb McAllister.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Burnsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Lee Altizer and Rev. Byong Ahn officiating.  Burial will be in Burnsville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jamie Roberts, Devin Duncan, Ashley Gibson, Jeremy Allen, Chris McAllister, Lawrence Woodson and Gary Ryder.  Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Burnsville United Methodist Church Building Fund, or the Burnsville First Responders, both c/oJoyce Hevener, 9422 Dry Run Rd, Burnsville, VA 24487.
