Cleo "Gommie" Coursey (Hupman) Mitchell

July 17, 1910 ~ February 1, 2005 (age 94)

Mrs. Cleo “Gommie” Coursey Mitchell, 94, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Augusta Medical Center.

She has made her home at Birch Gardens Assisted Living for the past 7 years, where she received loving care.

She was born July 17, 1910 in Highland County, a daughter of the late Charles Ashby and Nora Devericks Hupman.

Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. She was a member of the Fishersville United Methodist Church. She was an avid Rook and bingo player and loved to go fishing and hunting.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 43 years, Charlie Franklin Coursey and her second husband of 16 years, Stanley Meredith Mitchell; a son, Franklin A. Coursey; two brothers and five sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Charlene and James Beach of Waynesboro and bonnie and Joe Duncan of Henersonville, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Betty M. Coursey of Fishersville; eight grandchildren, Blane and Bruce Coursey, Mike, Judy and Rick Duncan, Jeff Beach, Jamie Fawley and Julie Meek; eleven great-grandchildren, Ben, Aryn and Cole Coursey, Nick and Megan Fawley, Justin and Jessica Beach, Bradley and Matthew Meek and Krista and Alyssa Duncan; a great-great-grandson, Holland Coursey; a brother Gene Mitchell of Head Waters; a sister-in-law Joy Smith of Head Waters and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Obaugh Funeral Home by Pastor Larry Nolff of Fishersville United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Head Waters Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A “Celebration of Life” memorial service will be at Fishersville United Methodist, Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 3 p.m.
