Adam Vaiden Simmons, 69, of Hightown died Thursday evening, April 13,1989 at his residence. 

He was born May 3, 1919 in Highland County, a son of Ira and Mary Magdalena Wolfe Simmons. 

He was a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church and was retired from the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation after 25 years of service. He served in the Army in World War II and was a member of Highland VFW Post 4989. 

On Oct. 25, 1946 he married Alma Rexrode who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Ruby Ruddle of Hightown and Sarah Simmons of Franklin, W.Va.; a son, Luther Blair Simmons of Linville; a sister, Eva Ward of Pulaski; four brothers William of Monterey; Roscoe of Staunton; John of Norfolk and Jesse Simmons of Yukon, OK. and four grandchildren. 

A service was conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. C. William Cox, with burial In Hightown Cemetery.
