Alfred "Aps" Richard Eckard

Alfred Richard "Aps" Eckard, 74 of Sugar Grove, WV passed away Saturday, August 19, 1989 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va.

He was born June 5, 1915 at Sugar Grove, a son of Daniel Franklin and Ida Florence (Fleisher) Eckard.

His wife, Annie Mae (King) Eckard, died May 29, 1959. He was also preceded in death by a son Norvell Henry Eckard ; and a daughter, Joyce Kay Eckard.

He is survived by five daughters, Anna Lee Calloway of Dayton, Va., March Frances Wright of Harrisonburg, Va., Thelma Jean Wimer of Petersburg, Bertha Ann Calhoun of Upper Tract, and Vicki Lynn Losh of Brandywine; four sons, Elmer Richard of Moorefield, Teddy Lee of Docas, Delmas Leroy of Elkton, Va., and Charles Eugene Eckard of Franklin; five sisters, Mary Florence Dickenson, Cleta Gaines and L. Landis, all of Harrisonburg, Va. and Sarah Oakes and Virginia Phraine, both of Maryland; 21 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. David Lee, with burial in the Eckard Family cemetery at Stony Run.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Dovel, Jerry W.E., Andrew E., Jerry W.E. II and Ronald Wayne Wright, Oscar Eckard, Bert Offinger and Jesse Losh.

The family will receive friends, 7-9 p.m., Monday at the funeral home in McDowell.
