Alice Massie

Alice Lee Massie, 85, of Bridgewater and formerly of Highland County, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Bridgewater Retirement Community.

Mrs. Massie was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Hightown, a daughter of the late John George and Annie Amiss Woods Beard.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ralph V. Whitener and Walter W. Massie.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Whitener of Clearmont, Fla.; two sons, Robert Lee Whitener of Herndon and Lawerence B. Whitener of Springfield; two step-daughters, Agnes Weaver of Harrisonburg and Mary Helen Silverio of Berryville; two stepsons, W.W. Massie, Jr. of Charlottesville and John Massie of Winchester; three brothers, Jack G. Beard, Jr. Joe W. Beard and James C. Beard, all of Beckley, W.Va.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery.

The body was cremated.
