MONTEREY – Amelia “Irene” Michael, 89, of Monterey, died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Augusta Medical Center.
She was born May 11, 1916 at McDowell, a daughter of the late John Wellington and Ruth Crouch Vance.
On November 19, 1960, she married John Michael Jr., who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by a brother, Lohr C. Vance and Janet V. Dunn.
Mrs. Michael was a past member of the McDowell Presbyterian Church. She retired in 1976 from Rohm and Hass Chemical Company in Philadelphia, Penn.
She is survived by a brother, Bruce Vance of McDowell; three sisters, Josephine E. Hague of Richmond, Lavenia V. Bird of Monterey and JJean McKenna of Apopaka, Fla.; four nieces, Jackie Alexandrow, Jeannie Hoechrist, Bea Heatwole and Lois Ilane Batten and four nephews, Gray Dunn, Rick Dunn, John Vance and Robin Vance.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Donald E. Rose.
Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Gary and Rick Dunn, John and Robin Vance, Todd Perdue and Daryle Heatwole.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Medical Center, P.O. Box 490, Monterey or Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, Va. 24465.
