Andrew D. Gutshall, 75, of Monterey passed away Friday, June 8, 1990 at King's Daughters' Hospital.
He was born April 23, 1915 at Vanderpool, a son of the late Ira Dean Sr. and Sally McLaughlin Gutshall.
He was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church.
Mr. Gutshall was a lifetime resident of Highland County, was self-employed through farming, livestock dealing and a State Auctioneer in Virginia and West Virginia. He was a member of the Virginia Beef Cattle Association and the Virginia Auctioneer Association.
Survivors include his wife, Leona (Hammer) Gutshall, whom he married April 27, 1940; daughter and son-in-law, Paige Mary and John W. Wagner; grandson, William Andrew Wagner; granddaughter, Leisa Paige Wagner of Staunton; three sisters, Icie Chestnut and Josephine Fox of Monterey and Dehila Armstrong of Staunton; brother, Woodrow L. Gutshall of Staunton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by Dr. Robert Gue, Rev. Norman Compton and Rev. Jerry Ginn. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be William Bratton, Buddy Hunt, George Reid Swecker, Swanson Dowling, John Reynolds, Mack Ratcliffe, James Varner and Jay Hull.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Wilson, Alvie and A.P. Gum Jr., Ralph, Carl, Douglas and Roy Gutshall Jr., Everett Cox Jr., Clement and Edwin Simmons, Robert T. Swecker, Fred Leustig, M.L. Eagle, Lynn Townsend, R.W. Brooks, Sam Sullenberger, Ralph Hammer, Bill Colaw, David Cauley, Leonard H. Bratton, Porter Folks, William Niswander, Dr. Thaine Billingsley, Dr. John Shayne and nephews.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Monterey United Methodist Church Memorial fund, Monterey, Va. 24465; or to a charity of your choice.
