Anna Lee Hammer

Mrs. Anna Lee Hammer, 51, of Monterey died Tuesday evening, August 30, 1988 at King's Daughters' Hospital in Staunton. 

She was born Sept. 12, 1936 at Marlinton, WV, a daughter of the late Claude and Virginia (Cochran) Carpenter. 

On Dec. 22, 1956 she married Robert G. Hammer of Monterey, who survives. 

Mrs. Hammer was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church, an active member of the Highland Rescue Squad for many years, a member of the Highland Homemakers Extension Club, past president of the Highland Cancer Society, and was employed by the High's Restaurant in Monterey for 10 years. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Beth Armstrong of Monterey, Mrs. Glenda Altizer of Staunton, and Ms. Tammy Hammer of Monterey; six sisters, Mrs. Dottie Agner of Warm Springs, Mrs. Zoe Sullivan of Anstead, WV, Mrs. Jo Sydenstricker of Millboro, Mrs. Alice Mongold of Dorcas, WV, Mrs. June Baker of Webster Springs, WV and Mrs. Carla Shinaberry of Stoney Bottom, WV; and two grandchildren.

Her sister, Bonnie Clendenin, preceded her in death. 

A funeral service will ble conducted 2 p.m. Friday in the Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Gue, Rev Jerry Ginn and Rev. Norman Compton. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers wall be Michael, C.W. and Dale Ham mer, William Niswander, Harper Terry, Jr. and Randy Bennett, 

 The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in McDowell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Rescue Squad, Monterey, VA 24465, or to the Highland Cancer Society, Monterey, VA 24465.
