Barbara Chapman

January 22, 1930 — September 3, 2015

McDOWELL, VA Barbara Joan "Bobbi" Chapman, 85, of McDowell and formerly of Monterey, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the home of her daughter, Patty. She was born January 22, 1930 in Lake Forest, IL a daughter of the late Jack Clement and Mabel Lillian (Godwin) Bridge. Bobbi will be remembered as the most amazing woman God could have placed in the lives of her family and friends. She loved everyone unconditionally and had the most nurturing spirit. She was a mother to so many and was an angel on earth. She didn't like to see any kid suffer or feel hurt. She worked three jobs, just so the neighborhood kids would have a place to stay. Always putting other's first, she bared everyone's burden to comfort all and lived her entire life to sacrifice for others. People knew they could always depend on her. She loved God with all of her heart and that was her legacy. She is survived by three daughters and her son-in-law, Patricia and Steve Shumate of McDowell; Jackie Martin of Virginia Beach and Rhonda Davidson of Florida; three sons and her daughters-in-law, Mike and Tammy Chapman of Virginia Beach; Richard and Janet Chapman of Waynesboro and Billy Otteson of Norfolk; grandchildren, Shyla Hise and husband, Jason of Horsham, PA; Lauren Sampson and husband, Cane of McDowell; Lele Mullins and husband, Glendon of Mill Gap; Linda Gardner of Charleston, SC; Tyler Chapman and wife, Erin of Winchester; Emily Chapman of Waynesboro and Abi Cavellier of Key West, FL; great- grandchildren, Hunter and Chloe Hise, Caynen Sampson and soon to be sibling, Lalea and Gunner Mullins, Meghan Chapman and Kaitlyn Gardner. She also leaves behind her sister and best friend, Patricia Maki of Beaverton, Oregon; brother, Jack Bridge and special friend and neighbor, Erma Hall. She was preceded in death by her son, Mikie Otteson. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In memory of Bobbi, the family request memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund, P.O. Box 758512, Topeka, KS 66675.
