Betty Kelley

Betty Jane (Lowry) Kelley, 63, wife of Franklin “F.D.” Delano Kelley of Millboro passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Hospice of the Piedmont’s Center for Acute Hospice Care in Charlottesville.

She was born March 8, 1957 in Hot Springs, a daughter of Charlotte Mae (Wolfe) Lowry of Millboro and the late Paul Brycen Lowry.

Prior to her illness, Mrs. Kelley attended Starr Bolar United Methodist Church and had been employed at Millboro Mercantile.  Always willing to help others in need, Betty faithfully served as a caregiver to both her mother and aunt in spite of her own illness. Additionally, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren, especially while joining them on family trips to the beach.  She was also an accomplished outdoorswoman, who loved fishing, camping, bird watching, photography, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Above all, Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and beloved friend within her community, whose determination and selflessness was truly inspirational and will be fondly remembered for years to come.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a sister, Ruby L. Hiner; and brother, Jimmy Lee Lowry.

Surviving family members include her loving husband of 23 years; her mother, Charlotte; her son, James W. Lowry and wife, Jacqueline of Winfield, WV; grandchildren, Gwenyth and Vincent Lowry; brother, Allen G. Lowry of Monterey; sisters, Pearl L. Snead and husband, Mark of Waynesboro, Brenda L . Hiner and husband, Jason of Hot Springs and special friend who she considered a sister, Frances Brinkley of Millboro; aunts, Helen Higgins of Delaware, OH and Marie Wolfe of Lynchburg; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2020 in Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Bill Gram officiating.

Active pallbearers include James Lowry, Glen Lowry, Michael Lowry, Len Foutz, Bill Wagner, and Bill Gram.
