Bonnie Armstrong

May 7, 1942 — September 6, 2017

Bonnie “Belle” Armstrong, 75, of Head Waters, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at her home surrounded by loving family.

She was born on May 7, 1942, in Norfolk, a daughter of the late Bonnie Mae (Cash) and Elbert Lewis Miller.

On August 4, 1965 she married Charles Stuart Armstrong.

Belle was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who always made sure there was enough snacks to fill everyone’s belly. Her number one hobby was spoiling her grandkids, watching them at all of their sporting events and livestock shows. Her grandkids loved hanging out with their grandmother in the house, on the porch or for a ride on the golf cart. This is what she cherished, enjoyed and loved most in her life.

She was a beautician and later a teacher’s aide and bus driver for Highland County Public Schools. For 30 years she worked in the school system and lovingly became known as Miss. Belle to everyone.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Coen Lightner.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill Sommers and Raymond Lightner; a son and daughter-in-law, Cole Stuart and Leslie Armstrong, all of Head Waters; seven grandchildren, Amanda Moore and husband, Jeremy, Chad Lightner and wife, Kari, Sydney, Anna and Zachary Armstrong, as well as Chloe and Cayley Lightner; two great-grandchildren, Kylee Lightner and Jase Moore; a sister, Faye Ambler of Stuarts Draft; a brother, Sonny Miller of Mint Springs; numerous foster children; and her Word of Faith Church family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Word of Faith Church with Pastor Chip Hill officiating. A private committal service will be held at a later date. Family request that you come in casual attire.

Family will receive friends one hour before and after the memorial service. Her family will continue to celebrate her life here on earth as she is celebrating with her family in heaven.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, Va. 24465; McDowell Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Delbert Rexrode, 527 Windrush Lane, Doe Hill, Va. 24422 or Word of Faith Church, P.O. Box 276, Monterey, Va. 24465.
