Carl Albert Whitesell

Carl Albert Whitesell Sr., age 72, husband of Connie Whitesell, of McDowell, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 5, 2024 at his home.  He was deeply devoted to his family, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Carl was born on February 19^th, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio, a son of the late Ruth Ann (Osterman) and Reverend Hugh Albert Whitesell.

Carl was a long-time resident of Virginia Beach, as well as Staunton, and most recently resided in McDowell. He spent most of his career working as a printer. Once retired, he spent his time with his family and as a caregiver to his dear wife of more than forty years. Carl had a tender heart towards animals, and rescued and cared for many over the years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Erin Stevenson and husband, Tipp of Chesterfield; his two sons, Thomas “Thom” Freed II and wife, Tonia of Virginia Beach, and Carl “CJ” Whitesell Jr. and wife, Jenny of Staunton; his aunt, Linda; six grandchildren, Serena, Amari, Austin, Amber, Cody, and Avery; and great grandchild, Kyra.

In keeping with his final wishes, he will be cremated and ashes spread. No formal service is currently planned.
