Carlton Stewart Hull, 87, of Vanderpool, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023 at his home.

He was born February 2, 1936 in Highland, a son of the late William Glen and Thelma Hazel (Page) Hull. On July 1, 1955, he married Patricia “Patsy” Jane Wilfong, who preceded him in death September 6, 2021.

A true servant of God, Carlton was a member of Monterey Presbyterian Church and for many years taught Junior High Youth Sunday School. Additionally, Carlton was a Master Mason and held membership with Highland Masonic Lodge #110.  An electrician by trade, Carlton was employed with the Bath County Pumped Storage Station for many years and was an accomplished cattle producer and farmer.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, as well as playing softball and baseball. Above all, he will be remembered for his “heart of gold,” love of helping others, and especially time spent with family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Carlton was predeceased by a daughter, Jan H. Barrett; grandson, Treves Hull; daughter-in-law, Lottie Hull; sisters, Dorothy H. Ford and Mary Glenn Hiner; and half-brothers, Max Hull and W. Moffett Hull.

He is survived by his daughter, Carla S. Brown of Vanderpool; son, William “Billy” Hull of Grottoes; two grandchildren, Ellena Hull and fiancé, Brandon Sherman of Grottoes and Joshua “Josh” Brown and fiancée, Zarah Johnson of Swoope; brother-in-law, Scott Wilfong and wife, Linda of Manassas; brother-in-law, Ernie Nuckols of Staunton; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Monterey Presbyterian Church with pastor Chip Hill officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service during a period of reception and fellowship.
