Carole Shoemaker Swartz passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, with family by her side. The love of her life, her husband Marty James Swartz, Jr., predeceased her.
Carole was born March 24, 1945, in Columbus, OH. A gifted and devoted artist, Carole traveled and lived throughout the world to study, create, and exhibit her work, and her art resides in private and museum collections throughout the United States and England, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She worked professionally as a graphic artist, editor, and illustrator for various companies and galleries in the Washington DC area before retiring and moving to Manning, SC in 2007.
Carole is survived by Marty’s daughter, Sondra Stockton, of Scottsdale, AZ, and her children Bradley Stockton and Kelly Stockton; her beloved sisters, Dolores DeFrancis, Susan Bettinger, and Mary Lombard, all of Columbus, OH, and brother, Christopher Shoemaker, of Logan, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Honoring Carole’s request for no services, her body will be interred in Monterey Cemetery. Those who knew and loved her are welcome to remember her in their own personal way.
