Catherine “Cat” Marie Wilson, 91, widow of Thurman Otis “Fuzz” Wilson, of Staunton, passed away, Saturday, May 11, 2019 at her home.
Born January 1, 1928 in Pocahontas County, WV, she was the youngest and last surviving member of 12 children of the late Minnie (Johnson) and Perry Malone.
She married Thurman Otis “Fuzz” Wilson on January 21, 1947, who preceded her in death on May 23, 2006.
A pillar in her community, Cat, was a member of Community United Methodist Church, the church’s Women’s Group and Senior Choir and frequently attended Pleasant View United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Swoope Volunteer Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary, AARP, the Red Hat Society, as well as the former VFW Post #7814 Women’s Group. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and baking. Catherine was loved by everyone she came in contact with and will be missed by all.
Surviving family members include three sons, Lewis Wilson and wife, Sharon; Charles Wilson and Ralph Wilson; special grandson, Eric Strother, whom she raised, all of Staunton; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as, special friend, Willie Woodson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Earl Lee Wilson on October 18, 2003 and Carl Otis Wilson on September 12, 2014.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Community United Methodist Church in Staunton with the Rev. Reginald A. Early officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 16 at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Jones, Curtis Smith, Genie Vaughn, Marvin Scott, Carl O. Wilson Jr., and Francis Long.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors in attendance.
