Christine Chestnut

April 15, 1925 — August 18, 2008

Christine Chestnut, 83, of Clifton Forge, died Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Golden Living Center.  She was born April 15, 1925 at Mustoe a daughter of the late James Otis and Icie Gray (Gutshall) Chestnut.

Ms. Chestnut was a graduate Monterey High School and attended Dunsmore Business School.

She retired after 51 years as a cashier at a grocery store in Staunton.  She was a member of the Victory Chapel Advent Christian Church and attended Monterey United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, J. Otis, Jr., Curtis L., Darrell L., Lyle D., Carl and Stewart Chestnut.

She is survived by three sisters, Juanita Fay Thompson of Monterey, Anita Cauley of Hot Springs and Ila Claytor and husband, Douglas of Clifton Forge; two brothers, Lowell Wayne Chestnut and wife, Thelma of Woodbridge and Bobby Lee Chestnut and wife, Edna of Stephens City; three sisters-in-law, Emily, Herthel and Jean Chestnut and twelve nieces and nine nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Derek Tomek and Rev. Donald Rose. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be C.W. Hammer, Buddy Hunt, Berlin Beverage, Richard Waybright, Jay Hull, J.D. Chestnut, Gary Rexrode and Bill Wagner.

Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
