Clara Howdyshell

March 30, 1922 — January 17, 2007

Loving mother, Clara “Opal” Howdyshell, age 84, died Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Avante at Waynesboro.  She was born March 30, 1922 at Bartow, WV a daughter of the late William Oscar and Nora Naomi (Terry) Turner.

Mrs. Howdyshell retired from Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind after 24 years of service.  She attended Verona Full Gospel Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Dawn Pryor; five brothers and four sisters.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Duncan of Monterey and Judy Gillispie of Waynesboro; a son, William C. “Billy” Howdyshell of Greenville; six grandchildren; a step grandson; eight great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2007 in Arbovale Cemetery by the Rev. David Rittenhouse.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/oMrs. Norma Reynolds, 3052 Mill Gap Rd, Monterey, VA 24465.

There will be no public viewing.
