Clem Richard “Dick” Hise, 73, of Monterey, died Monday (April 29, 1991) at McGuire Veterans Medical Center in Richmond.
He was born July 10, 1917 at Hightown, a son of Charles Russell and Lilly S. (Eckard) Hise.
On Dec. 30, 1948, he was married Mary Irene Lowry of Monterey, who survives.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa and Europe, landing in the invasion of Normandy. He was a member of VFW Post 4989.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five daughters, Margie Bennett, Mary Jane Vandevander and Thelma White all of Cherry Grove, W. Va., Isabell Bussard of Monterey, and Patsy Shiflett of Greenville; two sons, Richard of Stuarts Draft and David Hise of Washington, D.C; a sister, Margaret Caricofe of Staunton; and 14 grandchildren and four step grandchildren.
A service was conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Jerry Ginn and C. William Cox. Burial was in the Monterey Cemetery.
