Cleta McCray

August 29, 1925 — December 4, 2017

Cleta Jane McCray, 92, of Staunton, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017 at Oak Grove Manor in Waynesboro.

She was born in McDowell on August 29, 1925, a daughter of the late Eli and Ida Jane (Eckard) Puffenbarger.

Mrs. McCray was a seamstress for Genesco for 42 years, retiring in 1987. A member of Zetta Presbyterian Church, she will be remembered as quiet person but very active in the Zetta Presbyterian Church Circle.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Earl Smith, in 1962; her second husband, Hubert McCray, on May 29, 1989; two brothers, Wilmer and Raymond Puffenbarger; two sisters, Ruby Spitzer and Margaret Arlene Hodge; and a step-son, Hubert McCray Jr.

Mrs. McCray is survived by two brothers, Jesse Lee Puffenbarger of Churchville, and Charles Puffenbarger of Staunton; a sister, Norma Eutsler and husband, Homer of Staunton; a step-son, Roger Lee McCray of Staunton; three step-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Obaugh Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stan Farthing officiating. Burial will follow in Head Waters Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Active pallbearers will be Earl Lee Puffenbarger, Robert Spitzer Jr., Kevin Eutsler, Eugene Hodge Jr., Marvin Hodge and Jeffrey May.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors in attendance.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Head Waters Cemetery, c/o Elmo Varner, 14952 Highland Turnpike, Head Waters, Va. 24442.
