Clyde Albert Barkley, age 85, of Franklin, WV passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville.
He was born in Hightown, Va. on December 6, 1940, a son of the late Ottie Brown and Janet (Helmick) Barkley.
Clyde was a longtime timber cutter and logger, and for decades owned and operated his own sawmill. Additionally, Clyde worked as a delivery driver, as well as a cutler and knife sharpener within the poultry industry. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed time spent in the woods, deer and turkey hunting and digging ramps. Clyde also enjoyed traveling to reunions and trips to eat out, most especially trips to Cicis Pizza. Most notably he will be remembered for his large garden and huge tomatoes - Clyde truly loved his garden and found joy in sharing his bounty with community members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Irene (Barkley) Reedy, and Lillian Elizabeth (Barkley) Arbogast.
He is survived by three daughters; and two sisters, Genevieve Via and Rhoda Brown.
A graveside will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2026 in Blue Grass Cemetery, with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Lambert, Albert Moyers, Thomas Renn, Aaron Sponaugle, Jeremy Townsend and Braden Moyers.
The staff of Obaugh Funeral Home staff will receive friends and family wishing to pay their respects Tuesday, June 23rd, 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home in McDowell.
