Darlie King

October 19, 1936 — February 21, 2009

Darlie G. King, 72, devoted wife, mother and nana, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Bath Community Hospital.  She was born October 19, 1936 in Highland County a daughter of the late John W.D. and Hazel Colemond (Woods) Gutshall.  On June 29, 1954, she married Omar Hamilton King.

Mrs. King was a 1954 graduate of Monterey High School.  She was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress, a member of the Highland Baptist Church and past board member of Highland County Crafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an eldest son, Kwinton King; an infant daughter and two brothers, Hartzel and Harlan Gutshall.

She is survived by her husband, Omar “Tinker” King of Monterey; a daughter and her fiancé, Denise King and Bucky Smith of Monterey; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Terry and Vickie King of Monterey, Kirk King of Monterey and Darrin and Helga King of Bealeton; two grandsons, Eric King of King George and Aaron King of Monterey; three sisters, Arlene Peters of Mechanicsville, Russie Peters of Virginia Beach and Herthel Chestnut of Verona and a brother, Hunter Gutshall of Perry, FL.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating.  Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Gene Poats, Brad Gumm, Neal Sawyers, Carlton Hull, Steven Wimer and Harley Gardner.  Honorary pallbearers will be church members and special friends.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, VA 24465.
