David Rushby

September 5, 1979 — July 8, 2007

David Stephen Rushby, 27, of Blue Grass, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 in a drowning accident in the Black Sea at Anapa, Russia.

Mr. Rushby was born September 5, 1979 in Harrisonburg, a son of William F. and Darlene O. Rushby of Blue Grass.

He was a graduate of Bridgewater College.  He was employed by Tander, Inc. in Krasnodar, Russia for the last nine months.  He worked as project manager in the information technology division.  He liked reading and writing, the study of foreign languages, cutting and splitting wood and hiking.  Most of all he enjoyed his work as computer consultant for Blue Grass Valley Bank and Page Valley Bank.

Survivors also include two brothers, Justin E. Osborn of Seattle, WA and Jonathan C. Osborn of Virginia Beach; a sister, Janene E. Good of Harrisonburg; an adopted sister, Clarie D. Smith of Denver, CO and paternal grandmother, Mollie Rushby of Port Henry, NY.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas J. Osborn.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at the Stonewall Ruritan Building in McDowell by Brethren Stephen Good, Charles Heatwole, Clair Heatwole, Elam Heatwole and John D. Martin.

Burial will be in the McDowell Mennonite Church Cemetery on Sugar Hollow Lane off of Strait Creek Road.

Active pallbearers will be Anthony Crane, Kenneth Hodges, David Schrock, Jonathan Osborn, Charles Rushby, Joseph Rushby, Seth McLaughlin, Mark McLaughlin and Andrew McLaughlin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.  At 6:30 p.m., there will be a prayer service with singing, lead by Brother Daniel Freed.

The family requests that flowers be omitted.  Memorial contributions may be made to David Rushby Memorial Fund, c/o Bradley Heatwole, 268 Cowpasture River Road, Williamsville, VA 24487.
