David "Pood" Varner

July 17, 1936 — April 14, 2012

David “Pood” Kenneth Varner, 75, of Staunton and formerly of Monterey, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Envoy of Staunton.

He was born July 17, 1936 in Highland County, a son of the late James Russell Varner and Lucy Mae Smith Varner of Pendleton Manor, Franklin, W.Va.

Mr. Varner attended Asbury United Methodist Church and was a construction worker. He served with the United States Marines from 1957-60.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his brother, Douglas Varner of Monterey; six sisters, Betty White of Orange City, Fla., Lena Lou Miller of Staunton, Maxine Dever of Monterey, JoAnn Hull of Monterey, Carol Varner of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Ruth Varner of Bexley, Ohio; an uncle, Bob Varner of Stuarts Draft; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Hensley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
