Delbert Hoover

July 9, 1925 — December 21, 2008

Delbert William Hoover, 83, of Dayton, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.  He was born July 9, 1925 in Moyers, WV, a son of the late Henry Albert and Anna Elizabeth (Propst) Hoover.

Mr. Hoover was a member of the St. Paul Independent Lutheran Church.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the South Pacific. He had worked for 25 years for Rocco in Harrisonburg and retired from JMU.  He was a past member of the VFW, an avid outdoorsman, who loved trout fishing, hunting and trapping, a flea market vendor and attended many auctions.

Mr. Hoover was preceded in death by an infant brother and a sister, Martha Simmons.

On February 27, 1950, he married, Janet Imogene Pitsenbarger, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis H. and James “Moe” Mosher of Harrisonburg, Debbie and Greg Hammer of Mt. Solon, two sisters, Laurene Mitchell of Pennsylvania and Alberta Moran of Staunton and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12, noon, Friday, December 26, 2008 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Jerry Smith.  Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Dick, Bud and Jim Armstrong, Lowell Simmons, James O. and Mike Pitsenbarger.  Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 to noon on Friday at the funeral home.
