Dennis Leslie Kincaid, 62, of the Vinegar Run community of Highland County, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 14, 1961, a son to Jane (Gutshall) Kincaid of Monterey and the late Clem Osten Kincaid. On January 14, 2014, he married Ranriang “Rain” Thongjurai.
Although his time here was short, Dennis accomplished much in this life; he was a sawyer who loved time spent operating his sawmill and tinkering in his shop. He enjoyed woodworking and was known for gifting handmade benches for weddings. He also loved the outdoors -- especially hunting, fishing and just being in nature. Dennis was also a long-time employee of Virginia Department of Transportation, where he enjoyed sharing his dry sense of humor and great wit. Dennis was not without his shortcomings, as his family recalls he could be an aggravation when he wanted to be and was never on time for anything.
He attended Victory Chapel Advent Christian Church and was raised and held membership with the former Pisgah Presbyterian Church. His community was very important to him and in return, Dennis was known as a great friend and neighbor. He was the best big brother a sister could have, who was always protective and supportive when they needed him most. Additionally, he was a doting son to his mother and will be remembered as a proud and loving husband to Rain, who he lovingly referred to as “Rainbow.” Their marriage was truly special and Dennis would often state “the best 10 years of my life were spent with my wife.”
In addition to his mother and his beloved wife, he is survived by his daughter, Samantha Kincaid of Clifton Forge; sisters, Susan Murray of Monterey and Lisa Kodger and husband, Les of Monterey; nephews, Vincent Murray, Abram Kodger and Adam Kodger; nieces, Sarah McCarty, Rachel Murray and Melissa Kodger; great-nephews, Jacob and Scottie Murray and Osten Gwin; as well as his countless friends and family within the community.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Obaugh Funeral Home with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bolar Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Kim Rexrode, Treasurer, 21271 Sam Snead Highway, Warm Springs, Va. 24484 or Bolar Volunteer Rescue Squad, 1099 Robinson Lane, Warm Springs, Va. 24484.
