Dennis O'Hearn

April 22, 1945 — September 29, 2007

Dennis H. O’Hearn, 62, of Staunton, died Saturday, September 29, at August Medical Center.  He was born April 22, 1945, in St Louis, Missouri, a son of Frank and Helen O’Hearn.  He was a graduate of Cardinal Glennon College and attended Catholic Seminary and Kishawaukee Community College.

At the age of 22 he enlisted into the Army and became a communications officer at the White House where he worked directly for President Johnson and President Nixon.  Shortly after starting at the White House he became the Communication’s Manager for all domestic and international communications.  While in this position he was able to travel across the world to include five continents.  He worked over 30 years in the telecommunications industry and operated in three separate corporations ascending to the executive Vice-President level in two, before finishing his professional career at the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda O’Hearn of Staunton, VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Larry DiGiovanni of Centreville, VA, 2 sons and two daughters-in-law, Dennis and Erika O’Hearn of Alexandria, VA and Tom and Amy Jo O’Hearn of Arlington, VA, and four grandchildren, Nicholas DiGiovanni and Broghan, Quinn, and Brock O’Hearn; a brother, Frank O’Hearn, of Madras, Oregon; and a number of nieces of nephews.

He was a loving husband and outstanding father who cherished his family above all else.  He treasured vacations in the Outer Banks with his family at his side and weekend outings with his wife.  He is a devout Catholic who enjoyed participating in the Catholic Community and now resides with Our Heavenly Father.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Monterey United Methodist Church by Father Tom Collins and Rev. Derek Tomek.

Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.  Arrangements by Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
