Dennis “Dennie” Gene Phillips, age 75, of Keezletown, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025 at his cabin in Pendleton County, WV.
He was born in Harrisonburg on April 13, 1950, a son of the late George Ervin and Violet Mae (Grandle) Phillips.
A lifelong contractor, Dennie was the owner of Dennis Phillips Tile and Floor Covering, which served Rockingham County and surrounding areas. Dennie began working in construction on Massanutten Mountain, which remained a central focus of his work throughout his career.
Following high school Dennie was drafted in the United States Army, where he was deployed and served in the Vietnam War.
Additionally, he was a member of Bethel Church of the Brethren and the Keezletown Ruritan Club.
Dennie will be remembered as an avid hunter, was well regarded for his selflessness nature and strong work ethic, and absolutely loved Turner Ham sandwiches.
In addition to his wife of 15 years, Janet Marie (Fleisher) Phillips of Keezletown, left to cherish his memory are his son, Wesley Gene Phillips of Keezletown; daughter, Candace “Lindsay” Mowbray and partner, Jason of Fairfield; brother, Ronnie Phillips of Rockingham; sisters, Yvonne Byrd of Rockingham, Yvette Dove and husband, Bruce of Broadway, and Janice Mowbray and husband, Al of Grottoes; grandchildren, Cameron and Jayden Smith of Weyers Cave; as well as the mother of his son, Mary Phillips of Keezletown.
A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Bethel Church of the Brethren in Keezletown, with pastors Lane Turner and William Staton officiating. A committal service in Arlington National Cemetery will be held and announced at a later date.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
