Dorotha "Dot" Belle (Wimer) Stone

Dorotha “Dot” Wimer Stone, 94, of Franklin, WV passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Pendleton Manor.

She was born on October 7, 1929 in Durbin, a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Margie R. Wimer of Blue Grass, Va. On February 18, 1955 she married Ivan L. Stone, who predeceased her in November of 1985, when he was overtaken by flood waters while returning home from helping neighbors during the West Virginia flood.

A devoted Christian, Mrs. Stone was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, where she was organist. She was also a former member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was pianist and organist.

In her youth, she worked with her father at his store, which also served as a gas station and barber shop. Mrs. Stone also was awarded a Home Nursing Certificate by the Virginia Defense Council in 1945. She had been employed at the Aileen plant in Monterey, Va. and Hanover Shoe plant in Franklin before her early retirement.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Kathleen W. Smith, Gretta W. Johnson and Margaret Lois Wimer.

Mrs. Stone is survived by nieces, Cindy (Johnson) Thompson and husband, Roger of Kings Mountain, N.C., Rita Simmons and companion, Woodrow White of Grottoes, Va. and Gloria Hise and husband, Andy of Monterey, Va.; nephews, Steve Johnson and wife, Tessi of Morningside, Md. and Wilson Smith of Monterey, Va.; as well as a number of great- and great-great- nieces and nephews. She was beloved by her family and will be remembered by family, friends, and loved ones.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Walnut Street United Methodist Church with pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating. Inurnment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
