Dustin Layton

Dustin James Layton, 17, of Blue Grass, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011 at his home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1994 in Lexington, a son of Rusty Layton and Melinda Hammer.

Dustin was a junior at Highland High School, a member of the FFA and was on the basketball team. He enjoyed playing football, the outdoors, fishing and hunting, especially bear hunting.

He is survived by his father, Rusty Layton, and fiancée, Tina Bush, of Roanoke; his mother, Melinda Hammer and fiancé, Randy Martin, of Covington; three sisters, Cierra and Casandra Martin and Ashley Layton; maternal grandparents, Mike Hammer and Sandra Hammer, both of Blue Grass; paternal grandparents, Dorothy Morris and husband, Kenny, of Charlottesville, and Raymond Layton of Burnt Chimney; a number of aunts and uncles and very special friends, Sam and Kathy Brown of Rocky Mount and Steven and Yvonne Wimer of Monterey.

A funeral service was conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Word of Faith Church, with the Rev. Andre Crummett and Pastor Chip Hill officiating.

Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Dale and C.W. Hammer, Steven and Kevin Wimer, Jerry Shifflett and Mike Halterman. Honorary pallbearers were friends and classmates.
