Edward “Lee” Washburn, 83, of Franklin, WV, died Friday, August 3, 2007 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV. He was born July 23, 1924 in Highland County a son of the late Willie Edward and Mary Ellen (Snyder) Washburn.
Mr. Washburn served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Kerr – McGee Corp. and had worked at Vepco - Pump Storage Facility in Bath County.
On May 1, 1947, he married, Margaret Joyce Newcomb, who preceded him in death on December 4, 1991. He was also predeceased by two brothers, William Clarence and Robert Lee Washburn and two sisters, Rose Marie and Mary Grace Washburn.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Margaret Warner of Harrisonburg and Sandra Clair Washburn of Franklin, WV; a granddaughter, Vicki W. Gery and her husband, Andy of Harrisonburg; a sister, Ann Lee Warren of Craigsville and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Andre Crummett. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Olin Sponaugle, Olin Landis, Donnie Ferrell, Mark and Allen Simmons and John Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Gery and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
