Elizabeth Ryder Beverage, 84, of Monterey died Saturday night, October 10, 1987 after an extended illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate Hiner, with whom she had been residing.
She was born October 30, 1902 in Hightown, a daughter of Walter Bruce and Mary Alice (Wilfong) Ryder.
On November 27, 1924, she married Walter Ralph Beverage, who died June 13, 1973.
She was a member of Monterey Presbyterian Church, the women of the Church and the Mt. View Extension Homemakers Club. She was a former member and clerk of Monterey town Council, was a graduate of State Normal School (now James Madison University), a school teacher in Highland County for a number of years, and was a former employee of Aileen Inc.
Surviving are three other daughters, Mrs. Margaret Kiely of Annapolis, Md., Mrs. Charlotte Swecker of Monterey and Mrs.. Mary Corbett, of Clifton Forge; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the revs. C. William Cox and Jerry Ginn, with burial in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Eagle, Jack Herold, Gene Hammer, William Niswander, Robert H. Wilfong, Everett Marshall, Carlton Hull, Ferd Frye and B.T. Swecker Jr.
The family will receive friend 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in McDowell.
