Ellwood Francis Florence, 77, of Head Waters, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 at his home.
He was born Oct. 20, 1934 in Alexandria, a son of the late Milton Joseph and Florence Bea Duvall Florence.
He served in the U.S. Navy and retired after 33 years with the Washington National Airport Federal Aviation Administration in Arlington as an air conditioning and heating supervisor. He had also worked at Harrisonburg Auto Auction for eight years. He was a past member of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter in-law, Bryan E. Florence and Gregory and Kathy Florence, all of Catlett; three grandchildren, Jamie L. Florence of Poway, Calif.; and Cody and Ashley Florence, both of Catlett; and two brothers, Gene M. Florence of Rockville, Md. and Kenneth G. Florence of Arlington.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.
Burial will be in Head Waters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Miller, Steve and Elmo Varner, Cole and Charles Armstrong, Jeff Back and Clyde Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service..
