Elvert "Brushy" Puffenbarger

August 18, 1934 — November 14, 2006

Elvert Howard “Brushy” Puffenbarger, Sr., age 72, of Big Stone Gap and formerly of McDowell, died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Lonesome Pine Hospital.  He was born August 18, 1934 in Head Waters a son of the late Elvert Harvey and Bessie Jane (Huffman) Puffenbarger.

Mr. Puffenbarger was a former landfill operator for the County of Highland and previously owned and operated a gift shop in New Orleans, LA.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jenny Moats.

He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Harrington of Lake City, FL and Elizabeth Chalker of Orlando, FL; two sons, Jerry Puffenbarger of Gainesville, FL and Junior Puffenbarger of Benton, LA; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Glenna Kirkpatrick of Staunton and Bonnie Pitsenbarger of Baltimore, MD and a brother, Archie Puffenbarger of Margate, FL.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. David Boger.  Burial will be in the McKendree Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Burns, Richard Waybright, Charles Simmons, Worthie Pitsenbarger, Gary Rexrode and David Booth.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
