Eugene Meyer

MONTEREY, VA Eugene Francis Meyer, 80, of Monterey, passed away October 7, 2013 at Campbell Rest Home in Bedford. He was born July 9, 1933 in Newton, NJ a son of the late Otto and Margaret Lorena (House) Meyer. Mr. Meyer retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1973 after 20 years of service, as well as a 20 year career with the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Meyer attended Highland Baptist Church and was a member of the Monterey Lions Club. He was an avid stamp collector; loved history, especially the Civil War and was very fond of animals. A patriotic veteran, he was very proud of his service to his country. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sallie Mae (Hobbs) Meyer; his son, Michael Meyer; step-son, Jesse Bryan and his brother, Bill Meyer. Mr. Meyer is survived by his daughter, Margy Rexrode and companion, Mike Oleson of Monterey; grandson, Meyer Rexrode; step-daughter, Sali Wedding of Georgia and his life long friend, Bob Price of Newton, NJ. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2013 in Monterey Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Friends may call at Obaugh Funeral Home.
