Eugene “Gene” Anderson Hodge Sr., 81, of Head Waters, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at the home of his son, Junior, in Staunton.
He was born March 16, 1930 in Head Waters, a son of the late Roy David and Ruby Lee Wilfong Hodge.
Mr. Hodge served in the U.S. Army. He had worked in construction, driving a dump truck, and after retirement he delivered newspapers for The News Leader.
On Oct. 25, 1953, he married Margaret Arlene Puffenbarger Hodge, who preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 1997.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Varner; and four brothers, Wilbur, Jake, Lee and John Hodge.
He is survived by a daughter and sonin law, Diane and Ray Yancey of McGaheysville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Hodge of Afton, Marvin and Lisa Hodge of Staunton, and Eugene Jr. and Linda Hodge of Staunton; seven grandchildren; two special grandchildren, Amanda Surratt and Mark Hodge; a number of greatgrandchildren; four sisters and brothers-inlaw, Lucille Garrison of Bridgewater, Peggy and Roger Sensabaugh of Fairfield, Betty and David Neace of Huntington, W.Va. and Christine and Dale Moran of Stuarts Draft; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Doris Hodge of Staunton and Jerry and Wanda Hodge of Churchville.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, in the Head Waters Cemetery with the Rev. Beth Pyles officiating.
There will be no formal visitation and the casket will be closed.
