Frank Chaplin Stanley Jr., 97, formerly of Millboro, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Franklin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Mount.
He was born in Millboro, March 16, 1925, a son of the late Frank Chaplin and Sarah Elizabeth (Shaffer) Stanley. On March 12, 1947 he married Gladys Lucille Liptrap, who preceded him in death on July 13, 2008.
A devout Christian, Frank was raised and baptized in Westminster Chapel, where he was a member throughout his entire life. Church was so important to him, and he considered the members as his family. Frank enjoyed visiting the shut-ins and patients in the hospital and he loved helping people.
An avid gardener, Frank kept his garden and yard maintained perfectly. He also enjoyed canning his garden bounty. He loved to hunt deer and turkey--spring gobbler season being his favorite--and he loved fishing for small mouth bass. Above all, his children were his life, and they will forever cherish the memories shared.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Roger Stanley; granddaughter, Tammie Obenshain; son-in-law, Gerald Craft; as well as all seven of his siblings.
He is survived by his four daughters, Lucy Teague and husband, Marshall of Roanoke County, Pat Dew and husband, Gene of Salem, Judy Stanley of Salem and Nancy Craft of Roanoke; grandchildren, Dr. Mike Stanley, Christopher Stanley and Teresa Engle; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Westminster Chapel Church with pastor Punker Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Additionally, a memorial service for his son, Roger, will occur simultaneously.
Active pallbearers will be Scott McCauley, E.B. Obenshain, Barry Marshall, Timmy Marshall, Mike Stanley and Christopher Stanley.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends in attendance.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church, beginning at 12 noon.
In lieu of memorial contributions and in recognition of Frank’s appreciation of flowers the family suggests floral arrangements be sent to Obaugh Funeral Home for the service.
