Gary Vandevender

November 14, 1948 — January 28, 2011

Gary Brown Vandevender, 62, of Franklin, passed away, Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at Pendleton Manor. He was born Nov. 14, 1948 at Cave, a son of the late Ira Brown and Esther Virginia Arbogast Vandevender.

Mr. Vandevender served in the U.S. Army and was a logger.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Shirley Ann Vandevender.

He is survived by a sister, Patricia Sipe and husband Jesse of Grottoes, Va.; a brother, John Vandevender and wife Ruth Ann of Smoot; five nieces, Amy Miller, Sara Sipe, Anna, Madeline and Emily Vandevender; and a great-nephew, Brett Miller.

A funeral service was conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell will the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Burial was in Blue Grass Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jim and Jamie Will, Marlin Rexrode, Larry Propst, Sheldon Waggy, Tom Simmons, Greg Huffman and Glen Rexrode. Honorary pallbearers were friends attending the service.
