George Ray Helmick

George Ray Helmick, 65, of Staunton, died Thursday, July 12, 1990 in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

He was born May 4, 1925 at Blue Grass, a son of the late Eli and Sally (Hederick) Helmick.

On October 24, 1951, he married Mona M. Bowers, who survives.

He was an apprentice tile setter for Standard Tile Co. in Staunton for 36 years.

He was a member of the Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren and a veteran of World War II and Korea.

Survivors include two sons, Martin R. and Garland S. Helmick, both of Staunton; one sister, Vivian H. Wolfe of Romney, WV; three brothers, Lester S. of Monterey, Ben H. of Mt. Crawford, and Charles H. Helmick of Walkerton.

A service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday in Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Gibson. Burial will be in the Bowers Family Cemetery near Monterey.

Pallbearers will be Roger Arbogast, Dale Hiner, Scott and Ronnie Helmick, Dale Ramsey, and Arnold, David and Clifton Vandevander.

The family will receive friends, Friday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home in McDowell.
