George Wickline Hooke Jr., 73, of Monterey died Wednesday, December 25, 1991 at King's Daughters'' Hospital.
He was born May 24, 1918 at Raywood, WV, a son of George W. and Annabelle (Hoover) Hooke.
He owned and operated Hooke Brothers Lumber Co. for more than 50 years. His efforts in establishing Needle's Eye Golf Course near Monterey brought golf to Highland County. He was a former member of Monterey Lions Club and a former president of Highland Fair Association. He was also a member of Monterey Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his widow, Lorraine Hooke of Monterey; four sons, George Wickline III of Monterey, John W. of Warrensburg, Mo., Randy of Monterey and Jerry Hooke of Monterey; three sisters, Virginia Hooke of Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, WV, Mary C. Crummett of Blue Grass and Dorothy Garrett of Baytown, Texas; two brothers, Adolp E. of Mill Gap and John Robert Hook of Hightown; and six grandsons, William Alan Hooke, Shannon Robert Hold, Adam Nicholas Hooke, Ryan Thomas Hooke, Eric Hooke, and Greg Hooke; a great-grandson, Conner M. Hold.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Keith Hooke, and a sister, Lucille Basham.
A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. C. William Cox and Jerry Ginn, with burial in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Simmons, Jack Botkin, Robert Lambert, David Ralston, Jake Rexrode, Allen Hull, David Cauley Jr., Jimmy Lightner and Andy Hupman.
