George E. Lovegrove, 79, died March 9, at his home in the Bridgewater Retirement Community. Mr. Lovegrove was born April 18, 1927 in Waynesboro, VA and was the son of the late Herbert and Sarah Lovegrove.
He opened the Western Auto Store in Franklin, WV in 1955 and added an RCA dealership and carpet center in later years. He was a 50 year member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church where he served as elder. Mr. Lovegrove also served the Franklin community through the Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club and Ruritan Club. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was an Eagle Scout.
He is survived by his loving wife, Hattie Hiner Lovegrove, and children, Janice Lovegrove of Bethlehem, PA; George E. Lovegrove, MD and wife, Amy of Beckley, WV; and Susan Geise and husband, Russell of Allentown, PA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Matthew and Meghan Joseph; Ashley Bryant, Sarah Akers, George Lovegrove, III and Natalie, Audrey and Marcus Geise.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and John David.
A private graveside service was held Sunday, March 11, in the Hamilton Chapel Cemetery, Bolar, VA, led by Pastor Don Hawks of Bridgewater United Methodist Church.
