Gloria Hower

McDOWELL, VA Gloria May Hower, 86, of McDowell, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013 at Augusta Health. She was born January 23, 1927 in Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Irwin T. and Annetta (Yonker) Kruppenbach. Mrs. Hower was a graduate of Kutztown State Teacher's College and Penn State University and was a teacher and librarian for many years. Upon retiring, she and her husband owned Gobblers Nob Tree Farm. She was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church and an avid bridge player. She was married 64 years to Donovan Earl Hower, Sr., who preceded her in death on July 9, 2010. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lee and Tim Bucher of Linden; her son, Donovan E. "Van" Hower, Jr. of McDowell and grandson, Patrick Bucher of Linden. Mrs. Hower was cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
