Grover Cleveland Moats, Sr.

May 28, 1911 — August 8, 1990

Grover Cleveland Moats, Sr., age 79, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 1990 at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born May 28, 1911 in Pendleton County, WV, a son of John Floyd and Emma (Simmons) Moats.

In 1934, he married Lillie Malcolm, who survives.

He was a member of the Hiner United Brethren Church and a woodsman. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator most of his life.

Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Simmons of West Augusta, Betty Woolridge of Churchville and Margie VanPent of Staunton; three sons, Bryon of Mt. Solon, Cleveland Jr. of Woodbridge and James Edward Moats of Churchville; step-daughter, Lucy Koiner of Staunton; step-son, William Smith of McDowell; sister, Mabel Hatcher of McDowell; five brothers, John of Harrisonburg, Eugene and Randolph, both of Baltimore, MD, Rembert of Maryland and Ed Moats of McDowell; 30 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Moats.

A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell by the Rev. John Garber. Burial will be in the Toten Chapel Cemetery near Moyers, WV.

Pallbearers will be Richard Bright, Timmy Mitchell, Woods Eckard, Roger Cecil and Albert Moats.The family will receive from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
