Hallie Harris

March 10, 1930 — September 18, 2016

Hallie (Hiner) Harris, age 86, of Richmond and formerly Mechanicsville, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Mrs. Harris was born March 10, 1930, in Highland County, VA, a daughter of the late Forest and Mary Susan (Waggy) Hiner.

Mrs. Harris was a member of Mechanicsville Advent Christian Church and former member of Hamilton Chapel Advent Christian Church.  She devoted her life to her family, taking great joy in their happiness and achievements, providing wise counsel in times of challenge, always thrilled by children of any parents.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her lifelong partner and former husband, William F. Harris; a brother, Harvey T. Hiner; and sisters, Hilda H. Palkot and Helen H. LeSeur.

Surviving family members include her beloved sons, Dr. William F. Harris II of Philadelphia, PA, Markley H. Harris and wife, Janet P. of Muskegon, MI, Dr. Alan C. Harris and wife, Dr. Boon Cheng Kok of Norfolk, and Douglas R. Harris and wife, Julia R. of Richmond; a brother, James R. “Jimmy” Hiner and wife, M. Jean of Monterey; a sister, Hattie H. Lovegrove of Allentown, PA; a sister-in-law, Jean Moler Hiner of New Windsor, MD; grandchildren, Jennifer K. Harris, Wesley R. Harris, Emily T. Harris, Alan Craig Harris Jr., and Lucas R. Harris; as well as nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Hamilton Chapel Advent Christian Church, in Highland County, VA, with the Rev. Heath Simpson, of Mechanicsville Advent Christian Church, and the Rev. Linda Ray, of Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church in Richmond, officiating.  Burial will follow in Hamilton Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hamilton Chapel.

Additionally, a memorial service will be held at a later date at Mechanicsville Advent Christian Church.
