Helen Maye (Dameron) Bodkin

Helen Maye (Dameron) Bodkin, 85, a resident of Liberty House Nursing Home and formerly of 308 Powell St., Staunton, died Wednesday afternoon, December 12, 1990 at the Liberty House Nursing Facility.

She was born November 5, 1905 at Schuyler (Nelson County), a daughter of the later Clifton M. and Pearl Mae (Miller) Dameron. 
She married George Peral Bodkin on November 6, 1934, who passed away April 24, 1978.

She retired in February of 1968 after 43 years of employment by L. Greif & Son Manufacturing Company as a seamstress.

She was a member of Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren, and formerly a member of the Olivet Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, J. Russell and Alice Bodkin and grandson, Jamie Bodkin, of Staunton; a step-son, Houston Bodkin of Staunton; and a step-daughter, Alma B. Huffman of Westview.

Also surviving are three sisters, Dorothy Kent of Waynesboro, Margaret Anderson of Afton and Catherine Propst of Lynchburg; six step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a step-son, John V. Bodkin; two brothers, Merritt and Hayward Dameron; and two sisters, Gladys Coffey and Juanita Bright.

A funeral service will be held at Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren on Saturday, December 15, 1990 at 11 a.m. by the Rev. William H. Garber. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Burial will be in the Augusta Memorial Cemetery in Fishersville.

Active pallbearers will be Robert L. and John E. Hunter, Chester Monroe, Joseph D. Botkin, Wayne Agnor and William Huffman.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Bodkin, Vernon Simmons, James Sensabaugh, Cecil Thurston, and Curtis and Jeff Hunter. 

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-9 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
