Mrs. Helen Gay (Hamilton) Chestnut, 77, of Hot Springs, passed away Wednesday evening, February 23, 1989 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 29, 1911 in Mustoe, a daughter of David G. an Nora Elizabeth (Griffin) Hamilton.
On January 1, 1929 she married Ray Newton Chestnut, who died May 23, 1988.
She attended Zion Hill Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Lois Cauley, Caroline Pritt and Virginia Martin, all of Warm Springs, Nora Simmons and Emmie Gillespie, both of Hot Springs; five sons, Nelson of Staunton, Rodney, Berlie David and Carl Chestnut, all of Hot Springs; one half sister, Dorothy Black of Hot Springs; one half-brother, Glen Doyle of hot Springs; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Chestnut was preceded in death by two daughters, Cloe Miller in 1971 and Dorothy Gay Chestnut in 1936.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home by Rev. Morris Bennett, with burial in Mountain Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Albert Shultz, Lynn Townsend, Ned Madison, Edward Cook, Earl Blackwell and Darrell Hiner.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in McDowell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Grove Cemetery, Warm Springs, Va. 24484 or to the Hot Springs Rescue Squad, Hot Springs, Va. 24445.
