Helen Francis Wimer Whitelaw, 85, of Fishersville and formerly of Monterey passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 29, 1931, in Highland County, a daughter of the late Ray Wilson and Neta Grace (Simmons) Wimer.
Mrs. Whitelaw was a homemaker, bookkeeper, and member of Monterey United Methodist Church. Additionally, she enjoyed time spent traveling, playing bingo, as well as reading.
On August 12, 1946, she married Heyward Herold “Red” Whitelaw, who preceded her in death November 8, 2011. Her brother, Gary Wimer, also predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Wysong and husband, Lewis, of Midlothian; two sons, Ron Whitelaw and James H. Whitelaw, both of Monterey; grandsons, Trevor Wysong, Aaron Whitelaw, Corey Wysong, Jamie Whitelaw, Adam Whitelaw, Matthew Whitelaw; granddaughter, Brittany Whitelaw; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Guy Wimer and Garland Wimer and wife, Gaye; her sister, Mary Waybright and husband, Harlan, all of Staunton.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., March 4, 2017 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Pastor Bobbie Jo Gardner officiating.
Burial will follow in Monterey Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren and Douglas "Dean" Beverage. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
