Hester Grace Armstrong, 92, died Saturday evening, September 30, 1989 at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home in Harrisonburg.

She was born February 5, 1897 in Highland County, a daughter of John C. and Amanda Jane (Siron) Simmons. Her husband, Blair Armstrong, preceded her in death January 12, 1960.

She was a member of Head Waters Presbyterian Church, the Women of the Church, and the Highland Extension Homemakers Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Pearl McCray of McDowell, Audrey Corbett of Monterey and Jane Armstrong of Raphine; five sons, Wayne and Waldo, both of Staunton, Frank of Waynesboro, Charles of Head Waters and Gene Armstrong of Ormond Beach, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by M.W. Hill Jr., and the Revs. Leroy Hulvey and Lester LaPrade.

Pallbeaers will be Jimmy, Gary, Steven, Larry, Cole, Timothy, and Michael Brent Armstrong and Bobby McCray.

The family will received friends, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in McDowell and at other times at the residences of Pearl McCray in McDowell and Charlie Armstrong in Head Waters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Health Care Center, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801.
