Homer Edwin Helmick, 67, of Monterey, died Saturday night, March 11, 1989 in McQuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.
He was born Feb. 1, 1922 at Hightown, a son of Early and Bettie Jane Simmons Helmick. On May 10, 1946 he married Lillian Tudor.
He was a member of Seybert Chapel United Methodist Church and was the Sunday School treasurer for 40 years. He was a charter member of the Highland Rescue Squad and had served 41 years with the Highland Volunteer Fire Department. He had operated a sawmill for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was with the 121st General Hospital in Germany during World War II.
In addition to his wife, survivors one son Michael Helmick of Verona; three brothers, Ralph of Woodbridge, Elmer of Monterey and Melvin Helmick of Bridgewater; and two grandchildren, Jeremy and Brandi Helmick.
A service was conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Monterey Cemetery by the Rev. Glenn Atkins.
