Ira D. Gutshall Jr., 62, of Monterey, died Sunday morning, February 12, 1989 in the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born September 25, 1926 at Monterey, a son of the late Ira Dean and Sally McLuahglin Gutshall Sr.
He was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church. He served in the Navy in World War II and was a member of Highland VFW Post 4989. Mr. Gutshall was a driver for Smith's Transfer for 20 years and in more recent years had hauled and dealt in livestock.
Survivors include his life, Mildred B. Gutshall of Monterey; three sisters, Ice Chestnut and Josephine Fox, both of Monterey, Dehlia Armstrong of Staunton; two brothers, Andrew D. Gutshall of Monterey and Woodrow L. Gutshall of Staunton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. C. William Cox, Jerry Ginn and Norman Compton and Dr. Robert Gur. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Les Lendes, Jack Sams, Eugene Hoover, Luther Bosserman, Billy Pritt, George Reid Swecker, George Bird and Buddy Hunt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Smith's Transfer drivers and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in McDowell.
The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to a favorite charity.
