Ira Emmett Simmons, 74, of Manassas, died Tuesday morning, December 27, 1988 at his home.

He was born May 29, 1914 at Sugar Grove, WV, a son of Stephen Tressell and Sarah (Eckard) Simmons.

He was a member of the St. Michael Lutheran Church and had worked for the city of Manassas for a number of years. His wife, Clara Mae (Eckard) Simmons, died December 27, 1947.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Fay McCray of Staunton; two sons, Richard Simmons of Brandywine, WV, Allen Simmons of Sugar Grove, WV; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Waggy of Woodbridger; and a brother, Virgil Simmons of Mt. Solon; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kenneth and Gregory Simmons, and Todd and Brian McCray.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin A., Walter and Clinton Simmons; and two sisters, Lillie Jane Shull and Lou Eckard.

A service will be be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in the Obaugh Funeral Home by Pastor Harold Cullers. Burial will be in the St. Michaels Cemetery near Sugar Grove.
